Summary

Microsoft's Lifecam VX-5000 is a mid-range webcam offering 1.3 megapixel photo capturing capabilities, 640x480 video resolution and a built-in noise cancelling microphone. The webcam offers flexible and simple positioning with a bendable base that can be placed on top of a laptop screen, monitor or a desk. When pressed, the webcam's only physical button opens a Windows Live Messenger video call with a contact. The Lifecam VX-5000 can also be used with Yahoo Messenger, Skype and other instant messengers.

Journalist Use

The features offered by Lifecam empowers journalists with an affordable ability to record in-person interviews. The webcam can also be used to webcast live on sites such as ustream.tv, a site which also hosts chat rooms. The audio recording function can capture brainstorming sessions or other meetings.
